About Our Church
Who We Are
St. Luke’s has a rich history of serving our community for over 190 years. We are a family of believers in the unending grace of God offered to us through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. We are a forward-looking congregation, and strive to reach out in new ways to our evolving community while respecting our heritage and traditions. St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Obelisk welcomes all persons regardless of ethnicity, religious background or personal circumstance.
Our Goals
It is our goal to develop our ministry to address the needs of all generations while creating an environment of love and respect for all who come into our midst. We desire to learn God’s will for our lives and spread the Gospel through word, sacrament and action.
First Time Visitor?
St. Luke’s ‘Obelisk’ is located at the corner of Route 73 (Big Road) and Neiffer Road, in a country area between the towns of Gilbertsville and Zieglerville, Montgomery County, PA. Our campus includes an old school house; it serves as a Welcome Center, where members greet visitors (and each other) after services on Sundays.
What You Can Expect
Sunday worship services include a casual, ‘spoken’ service at 8:00 AM, followed by a more traditional Lutheran liturgical service at 10:15 AM. On the third Sunday monthly, a contemporary, ‘Praise’ style service is held at 10:15 AM in lieu of the traditional service. Sunday School classes are held at 9:00 AM, allowing those coming to either the early or late service to attend while making only one trip out to church.
During the summer months (Father’s Day in June through the Sunday before Labor Day in September) we offer a combined Worship Service service at 9:00 AM with communion on the first and fourth Sundays. There is no Sunday School classes during the summer months.
The Spirit of God through Jesus Christ is truly alive and evident here, where you will experience a welcoming and non-judgmental family of believers.
More Than Just “Church”
Though in a semi-rural area, our facilities are constantly buzzing with activity. We host numerous community groups including cub and boy scout troops, brownies and girl scout troops, a knitting group, fundraising events for the fire company, and … possibly something you might spearhead in the future! Church activities include regular meetings of our vibrant youth group, the cherub, junior, senior and bell choirs, Messenger – the church Praise band, and church committees and organizations.
In addition, St. Luke’s has an on-going Prayer Ministry with constant alerts and updates sent electronically to many people in – and outside of – our Congregation. Annual events include a production of the Nativity story based on the Gospel of St. Luke, a ‘Community Day’ festival with no-cost attractions and entertainment, a Thanksgiving-style turkey supper, a HUGE indoor flea market, Texas Chili Night (a fundraiser for our youth’s annual mission trip), a church-wide picnic, and more.
